Chamber Crisis Management & Recovery Planning
Latest #ChamberStrong COVID-19 Responses
This week's conversations transitioned to recovery and reinvention. The role of chambers has never been more critical. The ability to creatively problem solve in our regions and find niche value propositions will be even more important in the future. Our role as community builders and catalytic leaders will ensure we're vibrant and essential for the long run. Here is our updated recovery reading list.
Stimulus Funding The fight to get chambers included in the next stimulus package wages on. We have an op-ed we're shopping around, and you're welcome to leverage it in your own community. Change the Little Rock example to highlight the work your chamber is doing.
Rethinking our Future Our world will fundamentally change after COVID-19 and many old business models will no longer be relevant. In the short and long terms, we'll rely less on membership dues, so we need to focus more on investor models, foundation fundraising, new sponsorship opportunities and fee-for-service as revenue generators.
ACCE is rethinking its future as well, so we can be the best resource for the future of chambers and community engagement. While this is a challenging time, it's also a chance to craft our new future. That's an exciting opportunity.
I welcome your thoughts on the future of the profession and our association. Reach out to me anytime. And I hope this weekend you're able to enjoy some much-needed rest.
All my best,
Sheree Anne
President & CEO

Need Some Good News? This Will Cheer You Up!
We hope this email finds you and your loved ones safe and in good health. These past weeks our inboxes have been bombarded with heartbreaking images and testimonies from the effects of COVID-19 all over the world. So we thought we would try to cheer you up by sharing some good news for a change.
As you know, your contributions to ConPRmetidos are helping the Puerto Rican people recover from the suffering and devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, in addition to the earthquakes of January 2020. Your contributions are also helping small businesses throughout the island overcome financial and operating challenges now spurred by the global pandemic.
An example of this is the $100,000 grant we have recently made to Centro para Emprendedores (Center for Entrepreneurs), a local nonprofit that is teaching new business owners everything they need to know to run a successful company, in addition to supporting existing businesses in their transition to the world of digital media and online services. Our goal in partnering with Centro para Emprendedores is to prevent the shutdown of locally-owned enterprises on the island. And your contributions are making this goal a reality, so thank you!
We will report to you regularly with uplifting stories of inspiring local entrepreneurs who refuse to give up and continue to work hard for their families and the recovery and sustainability of their communities. In the meantime, please know our hearts are full of gratitude and love for you and your family.
Ps. Support Puerto Rico during the Global Day of Giving!
Every act of kindness and solidarity makes a difference

Covid-19 has infected hundreds of thousands of Americans and affected millions more around the world. Across America, shuttered schools have put 30 million children at risk of going hungry. Closed businesses have left more than 20 million workers without income. And while locking down our economy is crucial for saving lives now, it has tremendous consequences for the poorest among us - as people of color and low-income Americans are disproportionately losing livelihoods, and lives. In the face of an ineffective nationally-coordinated response, insufficient data, and inadequate amounts of protective gear and testing, we need an exit plan.
Testing is our way out of this crisis. Instead of ricocheting between an unsustainable shutdown and a dangerous, uncertain return to normalcy, the United States must mount a sustainable strategy with better tests and contact tracing, and stay the course for as long as it takes to develop a vaccine or cure. Any plan to do so must win the faith of private and public sector leaders across the country, and of individual Americans that they and their loved ones will be safer when we begin to return to daily life.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: FDA Authorizes First Test for Patient At-Home Sample Collection
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the first diagnostic test with a home collection option for COVID-19. Specifically, the FDA re-issued the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) COVID-19 RT-PCR Test to permit testing of samples self-collected by patients at home using LabCorp's Pixel by LabCorp COVID-19 Test home collection kit.
"Throughout this pandemic we have been facilitating test development to ensure patients access to accurate diagnostics, which includes supporting the development of reliable and accurate at-home sample collection options," said FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, M.D. "The FDA's around-the-clock work since this outbreak began has resulted in the authorization of more than 50 diagnostic tests and engagement with over 350 test developers. Specifically, for tests that include home sample collection, we worked with LabCorp to ensure the data demonstrated from at-home patient sample collection is as safe and accurate as sample collection at a doctor's office, hospital or other testing site. With this action, there is now a convenient and reliable option for patient sample collection from the comfort and safety of their home."
