El pasado viernes, 9 de julio de 2021 el Comité de Capítulos Universitarios de la Cámara de Comercio de Puerto Rico celebró el Congreso Empresarial, evento en el cual resaltaron los logros de cada Capítulo Universitarios. 



Los premiados fueron: 
  • Capitulo del Año- Universidad Politécnica 
  • Actividad Social- Regala la Alegría de la Navidad de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ponce
  • Presidente del año- Maria Corina García de la Universidad Politécnica 
  • Actividad del Año- "Manejo del Tiempo" con Otto Openheimer de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Aguadilla  
  • Socio del año- Efrain Rodriguez de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ponce 
  • Premio Perseverancia- Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Aguadilla

Se reconoció al Capítulo Universitario de la UPR Recinto de Río Piedras, Universidad Interamericana Recinto Metropolitano y el Recinto de Bayamón.

 Cannabis Banking:
Between a Rock and a Hard Place 


Banking for the hemp and medical cannabis industries in Puerto Rico could be a reality if both private and government banks embrace new technologies and ways of doing business, Caribbean Business was told by Teresita Santiago, the chairwoman of the Cannabis and Hemp Committee of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, which helped draft commonwealth Senate bill 421, which seeks to expand the services that the Economic Development Bank offers to these types of emerging industries. 

As explained by Santiago, the main obstacle that exists for the development of a banking service on the island that meets the needs of these two industries is compliance with federal regulations.

San Juan, PR – July 13, 2021 – The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico announced that it has entered into an Amended and Restated Plan Support Agreement (PSA) with holders of general obligation (GO) bonds issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and bonds issued by the Public Building Authority (PBA).

FEMA asigna sobre $2.6 millones para la represa de Patillas

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico — La Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias (FEMA, por sus siglas en inglés), asignó sobre $2.6 millones correspondientes a la primera fase de un proyecto que busca fortalecer la represa de Patillas ante un evento sísmico. Se estima que el total del proyecto alcanzará unos $558 millones, financiados en su mayoría con fondos de FEMA.

Census Data Shows Households Saved Economic Impact Payments
In 2020 and 2021, Congress enacted three rounds of economic impact payments (EIPs) for direct relief to households amidst the pandemic-induced downturn. Survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that households increasingly saved their EIPs or used them to pay down debt rather than spend them. While the data indicates that debt and saving became more common uses of payments in later rounds, the largest share of households reported using their payments for necessities like food and other living expenses.
