Firma ley que enmienda el Código Penal para incluir como delito acercamientos a menores por medios electrónicos con fines sexual


(15 de julio de 2020 - La Fortaleza, San Juan) - La gobernadora Wanda Vázquez Garced firmó la ley que enmienda el Código Penal de Puerto Rico para tipificar como delito el llamado "grooming". Vázquez Garced había sometido la medida a consideración de la Asamblea Legislativa el pasado mes de mayo.

La primera ejecutiva expresó: "Agradezco a los legisladores y las legisladoras de todas las delegaciones en Cámara y Senado el apoyo unánime a esta medida de Administración. Con esta enmienda al Código Penal, estamos protegiendo a nuestros menores que son víctimas de acercamientos a través de cualquier medio electrónico por parte de personas inescrupulosas que buscan perpetrar abusos o acciones sexuales contra ellos".

Federal Deficit for June Hits $864 Billion

Yesterday, the Treasury Department reported that the federal government's deficit for June, and June only, was $864 billion. The deficit for the 2018 fiscal year was $779 billion. That was large then, and that was only two years ago. June's deficit alone surpassed it by $85 billion.

DHS Halts Plan to Deport International College Students Enrolled in Online Courses

Today, the U.S. Chamber released a statement following the Department of Homeland Security's announcement to halt its plan to deport international college students enrolled in online courses:

"The U.S. Chamber is pleased that the Department of Homeland Security rescinded its ill-conceived policy regarding international students today. Our nation's educators and our economy are better for it."
Last week, U.S. Chamber CEO Tom Donohue issued a statement saying the regulation would "inflict significant harm upon American colleges and universities, their students, the business community, and our economy." In addition, the Chamber joined in support of litigation to block the rule.

Hungarian COVID-19 Response: Surtax for Banks and Retail
In response to COVID-19, Hungary has implemented tax relief measures as well as additional tax in some sectors in order to make up revenues.

Some tax relief measures have been targeted at "vulnerable" sectors, which include hospitality, entertainment, sports, and media. From July 1, employers in these sectors had social security contributions reduced by 2 percent from 17.5 percent. Contributions were suspended from March-June.



FDA's Coronavirus Treatment Acceleration Program

When the U.S. Food and Drug Administration learned of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potentially devastating effects, we acted swiftly to set the regulatory stage for drug and biologics manufacturers to develop products to treat this serious disease. To meet this urgent need, the FDA created the Coronavirus Treatment Acceleration Program (CTAP) to enable the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) and Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) to leverage cross-agency scientific resources and expertise to bear on COVID-19 therapeutic development and review. We're excited to say that there are now more than 510 drug development programs in planning stages, and as of today, the agency has reviewed more than 230 trials of potential therapies for COVID-19.
