EPA Embarks on Innovative Research Projects to Reduce Radon Risk in Puerto Rico
NEW YORK – To mark National Radon Action Month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced an innovative research project, to introduce community mapping of radon in Puerto Rico. The project will further expand the available data on radon risk in Puerto Rico and help quantify radon risk. Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible and odorless cancer-causing radioactive gas found in underlying soil, rock, and groundwater.

"Having your home tested is the only effective way to determine whether you and your family are exposed to high levels of radon," said EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez. "This year EPA is initiating a prevention-focused approach to safeguard the communities of Puerto Rico from radon risk through education, testing, and remedial action. The project will help identify opportunities for the Puerto Rico government and local officials to help residents understand radon and its potential risk and involve community members to prevent the risk of exposure to better protect their health."
EPA Publishes 2019 Annual Toxics Release Inventory Report and Analysis Facilities in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands Continue
to Reduce Releases of Toxic Chemicals
NEW YORK – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its 2019 Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) National Analysis, which shows that EPA and companies that manage chemicals continue to make progress in preventing pollution. The report shows continued toxic chemical reductions in Region 2 and that between 2018 and 2019 total releases of TRI chemicals nationwide decreased by 9 percent.

Clear and consistent TRI data encourages accountability and innovation from our regulated facilities,” said EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez. “Year-after-year, facilities in Region 2 pursue source reduction opportunities and implement preferred waste management activities to minimize their chemical releases and disposal thanks to the data in the TRI National Analysis. This transparency and collaborative use of knowledge helps to improve economic growth and environmental quality for everyone.”

BBB Scam Alert: Free Netflix for a year?
Think twice before you click
You receive a text message that says something like this: “Due to the pandemic, Netflix is offering everyone a free year of service to help you stay at home. Click the link to sign up.” Sounds great, right? If you click, you’ll be taken to a website to fill out your personal information and add a payment method.
