The Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released the advance estimate for gross domestic product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2021, finding that real gross domestic product increased at a 6.4-percent annual rate. Personal consumption expenditures increased by a robust 10.7-percent annual rate, while business investment in equipment and intellectual property products continued to grow steadily.

Unused or expired medicines in the home have long been a major safety concern. For example, data from calls to U.S. poison control centersExternal Link Disclaimer suggest that from 2015-2019 a variety of medications were implicated in some of the most common, and the most severe, cases of accidental ingestion of household substances by children. These data also indicate that calls to poison control centers during this time showed that pain medications were the single most frequent cause of pediatric fatalities. Drug take back programs offer a valuable opportunity for protection. For many years, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has strongly supported work to expand the availability of drug take back programs. These programs, many of which are run in local communities, can help people dispose of unused or expired medicines that can be potentially lethal – such as fentanyl patches, which are so potent that even a used patch touched by a child can lead to death.

As part of our ongoing efforts to protect you from sellers of scam COVID-19 treatments, the FTC has sent 30 warning letters to companies that claimed their products can prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19. These letters gave the sellers 48 hours to notify the FTC of the specific actions they have taken to address the agency’s concerns. Companies failing to make adequate corrections could have faced lawsuits under the 2020 COVID-19 Consumer Protection Act. Not only does the law make it illegal to deceptively market products that claim to prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19, it also lets the FTC seek financial penalties. The good news: as a result of these letters, all the companies have stopped making the false or deceptive claims.

WASHINGTON - SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman today announced the U.S. Small Business Administration will begin registrations on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 9 a.m. EDT and open applications on Monday, May 3, 2021, at noon EDT for the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. The online application will remain open to any eligible establishment until all funds are exhausted. 

“Restaurants are the core of our neighborhoods and propel economic activity on main streets across the nation. They are among the businesses that have been hardest hit and need support to survive this pandemic. We want restaurants to know that help is here,” said Administrator Guzman. “The SBA has focused on the marketplace realities of our food and beverage businesses in designing the Restaurant Revitalization Fund to meet businesses where they are. And we are committed to equity to ensure our smaller and underserved businesses, which have suffered the most, can access this critical relief, recover, and grow more resilient.”

You see an ad for CBD on social media or in an online search. A company is offering samples of CBD oil. All you need to do is pay a couple dollars for shipping and handling, and you can try it for free. In some cases, the product is even endorsed by a celebrity. For example, recent Scam Tracker reports mention popular ministers Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen.

Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, if you order the “free” sample, the scammers now have your credit card number. As soon after you receive your sample – if you receive it at all – you are charged $80 to $100 for an ongoing monthly subscription. Cancelling this subscription is not easy! Consumers report that scammers used numerous excuses to avoid issuing refunds. They claimed everything from trouble with the computer system to it being outside the cancellation window. Many victims also told Scam Tracker that the charges continued even after they cancelled their subscription.

El propósito del programa “Potenciando el Emprendimiento Innovador, AES Puerto Rico” es la capacitación de ciudadanos de Puerto Rico que deseen emprender o perfeccionar una idea de negocio. El proceso de capacitación es totalmente gratuito; no tiene ningún costo económico el inscribirse virtualmente, y se estará incentivando económicamente a los mejores emprendimientos. El proyecto consta de talleres virtuales de entrenamiento de las habilidades que debe poseer un potencial emprendedor, y los talleres tienen una duración aproximada de 9 a 11 semanas.
