The Federal Trade Commission is taking legal action to halt a scheme that allegedly deceived consumers with mailers supposedly directing them how to obtain federal COVID-19 stimulus benefits, which instead lured them to a used car sale.

The mailers sent by Traffic Jam Events, LLC and its owner, David J. Jeansonne II, were labeled "IMPORTANT COVID-19 STIMULUS DOCUMENTS" and directed consumers to "relief headquarters" to "claim these stimulus incentives," the FTC alleged in its lawsuit against the company and Jeansonne.

SBA and Treasury Announce New EZ and Revised Full Forgiveness Applications for the Paycheck Protection Program

WASHINGTON-Today, the U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the Department of the Treasury, posted a revised, borrower-friendly Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness application implementing the PPP Flexibility Act of 2020, signed into law by President Trump on June 5, 2020.  In addition to revising the full forgiveness application, SBA also published a new EZ version of the forgiveness application that applies to borrowers that:
  • Are self-employed and have no employees; OR
  • Did not reduce the salaries or wages of their employees by more than 25%, and did not reduce the number or hours of their employees; OR
  • Experienced reductions in business activity as a result of health directives related to COVID-19, and did not reduce the salaries or wages of their employees by more than 25%.
The EZ application requires fewer calculations and less documentation for eligible borrowers.  Details regarding the applicability of these provisions are available in the instructions to the new EZ application form. Both applications give borrowers the option of using the original 8-week covered period (if their loan was made before June 5, 2020) or an extended 24-week covered period.  These changes will result in a more efficient process and make it easier for businesses to realize full forgiveness of their PPP loan.

Facilitating Diagnostic Test Availability for Asymptomatic Testing and Sample Pooling

Today, the FDA took a meaningful step forward in getting more tests to more Americans more quickly and making that process even easier for developers by posting template updates regarding the validation of molecular diagnostic tests for developers that intend their assay to be used for pooling patient samples or for screening asymptomatic individuals not suspected of having COVID-19.

A conversation for all Americans

I have to admit that until a few weeks ago, I was under the impression that eliminating statues and other monuments was an attempt to erase history. In my view, history should not be deleted. However, after the turmoil that erupted following the homicide of George Floyd, I began to test my beliefs.

The United States is not alone in confronting this dilemma of eliminating signs of the past that are hurtful and may remind everyone of a terrible chapter in a nation's history. Most countries around the world routinely handle reminders of unpleasant chapters in their history. Recent reminders include Irak, Spain, Ukraine and Taiwan.

P.R. Treasury Department Circular Letter CC RI 20-26 of June 3, 2020 deals with local program announced by the Governor on May 14, 2020

There is apparently movement regarding the aids announced by Gov. Wanda Vázquez about the 2.2 billion dollars of Federal funds assigned to Puerto Rico for the Covid-19 Pandemic. She had said that 250M would go in the form of up to $5,000 grants to small businesses or micro-enterprises and 100M for medium-sized companies grants of up to $10,000. The government claims that the disbursement of Program funds will be subject to the strictest standards to ensure compliance with federal regulations and best practices which include audits. The Program will be supervised by a Disbursement Oversight Committee and administered by the Department of the Treasury of Puerto Rico. Applications are being accepted since June 5, 2020. [READ MORE]
