2020 New Americans Fellowship: Host Site Application
The New Americans Fellowship (NAF) is a leadership pipeline for DACA recipients. Managed by the Office of Immigrant Relations, the NAF offers career development and a stipend to cover living expenses. Fellows are placed in various County departments and gain transferable, professional skills such as:​

Research and policy analysis
Public communication and group facilitation
Graphic design and marketing
Develop knowledge to intergovernmental processes
Project support and management
County professional software
Serve as ambassadors to improve and expand immigrant integration​

Through OIR and their host sites, fellows may focus on any of the following elements pertaining to immigrants:

LGBTQ and women's rights and resources
Immigrants and public safety
Protecting immigrant communities from immigration fraud
Civic engagement, community education, and outreach
Supporting access to services for limited and non English speaking individuals
Financial literacy and navigating access to services

Commitments and What to Expect
Host site commitments:

*To participate in the NAF, host sites commit to providing a work space, supervision, mentoring, evaluation, and a detailed work plan for the fellow as well as email, computer, phone, and badge access.


What to expect:

1. Start date, end date, and event timeline
     • The exact starting date will be determined in March 2020 after the 2020 cohort is selected to ensure that the timeline works well for the cohort group based on school calendars. We anticipate starting the fellowship on the 2nd or 3rd week of June 2020 and will run for 10 consecutive weeks.

2. New Americans Research Project
     • Fellows are tasked with a New Americans Research Project and a final presentation requirement that provides policy recommendations to improve the lives of immigrants. Fellows will present at the County of Dreamers event, scheduled at the end of the NAF. Exact date TBD. Host sites may suggest research topics to their fellow.

3. Host Site Support
     •  OIR will provide host site support and promote the success of the NAF through an OIR liaison. We encourage host sites to contact us if any issues come up during the placement.
