Rise of the Rest (ROTR), Steve Case's seed-stage investment fund, recently published their 2021 Ecosystem Playbook, which “offers a Covid-era guide for startups to get funding, advice, and help to navigate their way to the public and private resources within their city's ecosystem.” FPR hosted ROTR in our office in 2019, where they recognized FPR and other organizations for their work and commitment to rebuilding the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

In this document, they highlight our outreach and education efforts during the pandemic, including the Stay Open, Stay Safe campaign and other virtual events aimed at providing ideas and training to keep the local economy active without compromising the safety and well-being of residents. Other organizations in Puerto Rico that were highlighted in this playbook include Endeavor Puerto Rico, Invest Puerto Rico and ConPRmetidos. As a result, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has re-opened HealthCare.gov for a “Special Enrollment Period,” from February 15, 2021 – May 15, 2021. This Special Enrollment Period will give people who need health care coverage the chance to sign up. But it also gives scammers a new chance to call, email, send letters and texts, trying to get your money — and your personal and financial information.

(NGNA) is an initiative of the U.S. Chamber’s Global Energy Institute (GEI) that showcases the benefits that natural gas provides to the economy, environment and natural security. Experts agree that the world will need natural gas for decades, and that natural gas in particular is essential to meet emissions reductions goals and allow for the deployment of more renewable energy.

Attitudes and local perspectives on natural gas may vary, but threats to its continued production and use are looming at the federal and local level. The phone rings and when answered, it is a recorded message claiming to be from Amazon stating there is a problem with your Amazon account. The messages range from a fraudulent charge on your Prime card to a lost or damaged package to an unfulfilled order for an iPhone. But no matter what the recording is, these scammers have the same goal: getting your personal information. The con artists will either outright ask for credit card and account login details. Or, they will request remote access to your computer under the guise of “helping” to solve the issue.

This week, the Treasury Department added several new appointees as staffing continues following President Biden’s inauguration. Among them were three scholars of international tax policy: economist Kimberly Clausing and law professors Rebecca Kysar and Itai Grinberg. These three will be influential in developing the administration’s approach to changing U.S. tax rules for multinational corporations and negotiating international tax policy changes at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
