WASHINGTON – Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, today is announcing the latest application data results for the $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF), passed as part of the American Rescue Plan, and signed into law by President Joe Biden. The RRF has received more than 147,000 applications from women, veterans, and socially and economically disadvantaged business owners, requesting a total of $29 billion in relief funds.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo met virtually with Brazilian Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes. During the call, Secretary Raimondo informed Minister Guedes of her recent appointment of three new private sector members to the U.S. Section of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum. Your dog or cat is sick, and you head to the animal hospital. The veterinarian prescribes medications that you hope will make your pet better. But with pets, as with people, medication errors can happen.

Just as the Food and Drug Administration monitors medication errors that affect people, the agency watches out for mistakes that may harm animals. According to Linda Kim-Jung, PharmD, a safety reviewer in the Center for Veterinary Medicine’s (CVM's) Division of Veterinary Product Safety, "A number of the medication errors that occur in the treatment of people are the same as those we are seeing in the treatment of animals." For this reason, CVM collaborates with the human drug center at the FDA, the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Division of Medication Errors Prevention and Analysis to share, learn and disseminate outreach work on medication error prevention.

More than 4.6 billion people used the internet in January 2021. With the average person spending more than two and a half hours a day on the internet, you have more chances to reach new customers online than offline. Yes, there is a dizzying array of ads and content shown to consumers each day, but one of the first rules of customer acquisition is that you have to meet people where they are. Today, people are on the internet, using it to communicate with friends and family, learn new information, and purchase products and services that can help them to improve their lives.

The Biden administration’s American Jobs Plan (AJP) proposal to fund infrastructure spending relies on a bet that the benefits outweigh the costs of a higher corporate tax burden. Using the Tax Foundation model, we find that this trade-off is a bad one for the U.S. economy, resulting in reduced GDP, less capital investment, fewer jobs, and lower wages.

To show the combined effect of infrastructure spending and different financing options, consider a stylized example of $1 trillion in additional infrastructure spending evenly spread over five years. New infrastructure will accrue returns over time, raising economic output. We assume a 5 percent return for public investments, consistent with assumptions by the Congressional Budget Office. The infrastructure spending could be financed entirely through the issuance of new federal debt, or alternatively by increasing the corporate tax rate, or by imposing new private user fees or excise taxes (such as the federal gas tax).
